I am 51 years old and I still have a regular period. About 4 months ago I either skipped a period or I was very late. This month I am past time and I'm cramping, headaches, bloated, tired and craving food. I have also noticed for the past 6 months I am a lot hotter. I literally am sweating right when I get out of the shower. Do you feel and go through symptoms when your not going to have a period.

Mary Jane Minkin, MD responded:
Dear An_250055,
Sounds like you are heading towards menopause. Of course, menopause is a "retrospective diagnosis"-you go one year without a period, and you can say, yes, you are menopausal. But your symptoms certainly sound suggestive. If any of these symptoms are bothersome to interfere with your regular activities, do speak with your health care provider about potential interventions.
Good luck,
Mary Jane
