Mary Jane Minkin, MD responded:
Dear An_250239,
The odds are in your favor that this is indeed not cancer; it could be related to a benign polyp in the uterus, or just some overgrowth of the lining of the uterus-so don't worry, but do get this investigated. Unfortunately, Diabetes is a risk factor for developing cancer of the uterus, so you do want to pay attention, and see your health care provider; (s)he will most likely recommend starting with either an ultrasound or a biopsy of the lining of the uterus, which can be done in the office.
One other thing to pay attention to is your weight; you didn't mention it-but if you are overweight, do work on weight reduction, as that is also an independent risk factor for uterine problems (and weight loss is great for Diabetes.)
Good luck,
Mary Jane
