I get wicked red
Mimigatt posted:
I'm mid 50's and have mostly non-sweaty hot flashes. Just the redness. Almost 4 years ago for New Years eve, I had crab and champagne for dinner. I turned so red I was nearly blue - face through neck. This happens on and off. I gave up wine for a month, but still was having some of the symptoms...just not blue in the face. This past week, I had a simply quinoa/arugula/shrimp salad for lunch. For dinner we had pasta and some red wine. Again, I turned so red it was ridiculous. I had cold compresses on my face/head and chest for over an hour. When I changed for bed, my chest had a V of red, where the skin was showing from my V neck tee shirt. This is quite upsetting. Any ideas?

Since you mentioned having shellfish before some of these episodes, it sounds like you could have a mild shellfish allergy. However, that generally manifests as hives and swelling so it seems like you would have had some itching. Shellfish allergies can be life threatening (due to a constricted airway). Were you "blue in the face" from difficulty breathing?

Wine can cause hot flashes especially red wine but it sounds like you pretty much ruled that out.
