Period in early peri menopause
ajay1977 posted:
I am 36 years old and at the beginning of the year was diagnosed with potential early menopause due to lack of periods , high fsh levels and this condition unfortunately affecting both my mum and nan . My last period was on the first day of a holiday to Marbella in November 2013 . I have had one round of provera and clomid but my progestorne levels were only 1 on my day 22 blood test ... I have another prescription for provera and clomid but was deciding whether to take or not .. Anyway I wight to Egypt in holiday and yet again on day 1 of the holiday April 26th 2014 I had a very long and heavy period ... I wish I had my clomid so I could have tried stimulating ovulation but didn't have any .. We have been trying to conceive now on the right days ... Is this in vain or could it possibly work ? I am very confused by it all and am gutted this had happened to me at such an early age Any advice would be much appreciated Anna
Mary Jane Minkin, MD responded:
Dear Anna,
Unfortunately, it does sound like you are dealing with early perimenopause, and it does tend to run in families. I would seek consultation with a specialist in reproductive endocrinology and infertility; you may benefit by some other medical interventions. The other consideration if that indeed your ovaries cannot be stimulated to work, you would be a very good candidate for donor eggs. Donor eggs were indeed developed for women who unfortunately go into premature menopause; and if a woman is otherwise in good health, she would be a fine candidate for donor eggs. A good reproductive endocrinologist should be able to give you good counsel.
Good luck,
Mary Jane
