Menopause - Younger Ages

For those of you out there that are going/gone through menopause at an early age, Yes it happens. It's unusual but it happened to me. I turned 40 yrs old Dec 2009 & yes I'm done. Apparently I was going through it my mid to late 30's. Never really thought of it at the time but I started to ass things up in my mind. I thought it was a lot of stress that were making my periods very irregular & weird. Then the hot flashes started along with all the other symptoms that I couldn't ignor anymore like the headaches/migraines etc... So I finally got to the point where it just dawned on me one day & thought wow could this be menopause? All of the symptons became overwhelming to I started reading up. Then I called my primary & demanded a blood test be done. Well she laughed at me saying I was too young. So when the results came back a week later she was the one laughing telling me I was right & that I had diaginosed myself. I'm 40 & haven't had a period for over a year. My mother was also younger when she went through it. She was 44 so I'm actually younger than her. I personally think all the stress I had to face for so long with so many different things took a toll on my body & it forced my body into menopause. That's just what I think but i was told by my Dr that very well could be. Stress takes a huge toll on the body in many ways. So just an FYI for all you younger woman that may be questioning what's going on possibly. Have a blood test done & get your hormone levels checked.

I had begun to wonder what in the world wa happening to me...then it was like, maybe I am beginning my menopausal phase in life. Thank you for your testimony, it helped me and hopefully a lot more of us who are "going through the change".

What do I do if my doctor doesn't think I need the test? I haven't had a problem with vaginal dryness, but I have a lot of the other symptoms on a regular basis. I just feel like the vaginal dryness and hot flash symptoms are the only ones doctors feel are truly valid for menopause. I just want to get back to feeling like myself again!

I too experienced menopause around 40, I am guessing. I knew it was happening when I was around 37/38. My periods were sporadic and strange things started happening with my body. I am 42 and my last period was Oct 2011. My physician is having me get an ultrasound and blood tests. But I heard that the hormone levels vary so much from day to day that it isn't very reliable to have them checked unless you are getting them checked every single day for 28 days. Is there any truth to this?

Jules - Since you haven't had a period for over a year, the hormone tests (FSH and maybe estrogen level too) to check for menopause should be accurate.
