Abdominal migraines

Newmexnaomi posted:
My daughter, age 13, is in the middle of what the drs think is an abdominal migraine and is being hospitalized. It has been 5 days of constact stomach pain and vomiting. Does anyone have any recommendations for stopping the cycle? She's already had zofran, reglan, phenergan and more with no success. Is 5 days out of bounds for this condition? I hate to see her like this. She had one day of 8th grade and then it hit her. BTW, it started on the first day of her period and she's had a similar, though less severe episode on the first day of a prior period. My husband has migraines.

those are all good medications. We usually don't try the migraine medications because they cause increased nausea and vomiting.

I hope this has been figured out. Usually I've read that migraines last up to 72 hours, but that doesn't mean there can't be a case of one happening longer. That does seem a little out of bounds though.

I've had something very similar happen to me since I was 12. On the first or second day of my period, except the abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting only last a few hours and subside. I can't imagine what 5 days of that must be like. The pain is unbearable, it literally feels like you're being stabbed with a blunt object. Usually I take naproxen sodium when it happens and it dulls the stomach pain after about 20-30 mins, though sometimes it takes longer, and the vomiting stops shortly after, though I don't know if it's from the naproxen or just the migraine running its course. I was just diagnosed after 17 years of doctors having no idea what was wrong with me. Not a pleasant condition to have, I really hope she's feeling better and that you've got some answers!
