    3x migraines/mth doc recommending verapamil
    jkbakk posted:
wondered if anyone has any thoughts on my migraine medical regimen. Like clockwork I get hormonal headaches that last 3 days. My neurologist prescribed Topiramate 75mg which I worked myself up to over 12 mths. It does not work. Now he wants to add Verapamil to that before he takes me off Topiramate. I exercise most days and am normal weight. Stressful life though! but whose isn't? :} To alleviate my migraines which start in my neck and up the back of my head and then sit behind my left eye, I use Treximet 2x a day for up to 2-3 days. I do not restrict my diet in any way but I don't drink caffiene, smoke or drink alcohol. Thanks!

I get about 4 to 5 migraines per month, always thought they were hormonal -- now not so sure because I am in menopause. Anyway, you should give the preventive daily meds a try. I'm still trying to find the right one for me. Unfortunately all the blood pressure type meds made my bp too low, felt too weird on topamax, and now I'm trying Noritriptylene which is an anti-depressant. It may be working a little bit but i'm getting discouraged, but I need to give it a few more weeks. So all I can say is be patient and try not to be scared in trying the diff meds (like I was). I hear Verapamil works for a lot of people. Good luck to you and let us know how it goes!
