MIGRANES FOR THE PAST FEW YEARS

MissB85 posted:
Thank goodness I am not alone in this battle....I have had migranes for the past few years now taking anything from Topamax, to Maxalt, to Neproxin, etc. I somehow think it's sinus related but have only had one MRI that has turned up negative and been with one neurologist so far.

I was just starting my research with my chronic migranes when I became pregnant with my son and with that the migranes disappeared. Just now, a year later, they returned and just as strong. I have cut out smoking cigeretts, am taking calcium and magnesium supplements and taking allergy pills but so far nothing is working. I am in desperate need of help and reading through these threads help me bring up some issues with my doctor.

HI,

Came across your message. I'm wondering whether you've been checked for hormonal irregularities?

I dont really have an answer for your symptoms, i too suffer them daily.

I have put it down to hormonal amongst many other things (stress, neck/back posture and some food allergies). Unfortunately for me it was just easier to take a preventative and experience relief but ive slowly worked on allergy testing, and finding ways to better my posture. The hormonal bit is the killer though. I'd be really interested to see if I too have a migraine free period once it comes time to being pregnant!

If the migraines stopped while pregnant and started again after pregnancy, see your gynecologist to find out what steps can be taken to adjust your hormone levels to balance you out and keep the migraines at bay. The Pill worked for me. A few months on that got me back to normal, so the headaches went away again. Hormonal migraines are the easiest to get rid of. The ones with other triggers can be a real bear, but identifying the trigger is the first step towards eliminating the headache.

I wouldn't take too much of the Naprosyn because it can give you rebound headaches. What other prevevntative meds have you tried besides Topamax?

While you were pregnant, your hormones leveled out and ddin't flucuate. You might try taking a BCP that stops your period. Some can make it worse, like the depo shot, and others might help stop your period. But some estrogens make headaches worse for some people.
