Bacterial meningitis & migraines

I suffered with migraines as a child may be 6 attacks per yr. I contracted Bacterial meningitis in 2000 in my first yr of nursing school, since then I have 2-4 attacks per a month and they typically last 3-5 days and are worse around my monthly cycle lasting a week or more. I've tried almost every drug on the market no prophylactic medication has worked thus far and the pain killers take so long to work its like my life is on permanent hold and I find it hard to keep a job. When I was released from hospital on antibiotics in 2000 a family friend made some tea from marjoram this was the only thing that worked to re-leave the pressure. I have not taken marjoram since then due to my profession. I'm at a loss and so tired of taking pills and injections. HELP ME!!!!

Yo could get temporary disability if your neuro determines that you can't get to a job every day, until you find some help. Have you ever tried perscription NSAIDs such as Indomethicin or etadolux? They can at least get you thru a day that you have to function.

Try drinking coffee right away when the pain hits. Does Imitrex work at all?

Why can you not take the tea?

Are you currently seeing a nuero and have you had an MRI?

Have you ever tried using a TENS unit?

You didn't give a lot of detail about exactly what you have taken, so please bear with the questions I have for you below. Just as carpetcrawler has asked you questions.

Have you tried Fiorcet or Esgic? That's the pain killer that has helped me the most, but you can't use it more than twice a week or it causes severe rebound headaches.

When you mention that you are tired of meds and injections. Have you tried Botox? It especially helps those who have not been helped with prophylactic meds. That's me. And at a higher dose of Botox, because the 100 units did nothing for me, I've had tremendous relief. You wouldn't mind the injections if they really helped you.

Also, I was not helped or could not tolerate any of the prophylactic meds, but an herbal medicine called Petadolex, did give me relief. Have you tried that one?

You asked for help, so let me know if you tried the above.

I wish you the best.
