get a cervical MRI

Your symptoms mirror mine. It took me three years of dealing with disbelieving doctors before I got an MRI of my neck. It showed two disc herniations, C5-7. There was also root nerve compression and spinal cord distortion.

Two doctors offered to do surgery. Because my risk of paralysis was fairly high, I declined both. I'm so happy I did, in retrospect. IMHO, neck surgery is dangerous and doctors really have very little knowledge of the repercussions in the long-term.

I've finally found a pain management doc who's got me on a good cocktail of nerve drugs and pain killers. I suggest you keep shopping for a neurologist/pain management doctor who isn't cowed by the DEA and is willing to take your pain seriously.
