Help! Constant Daily Headache...

LOAAughen posted:
I am ISO any help I can get right now! I have been suffering from a constant headache EVERY DAY for the last 5 months. It has put me out of work and left me sometimes unable to care for my children! On a scale of 1-10 my headaches generally sit at an 8 w/o medication. If I can lower it to a 6 I consider that a miracle day. I've found myself at an impasse.. I'm currently seeing a Neurologist who's approach is "Well, let's try this medication". And has a list of MANY medication combinations to try.. My MIL wants me to see a Physician who specializes only in HA... I don't know where to turn to.. Has anyone else experienced this!? It's extremely frustrating! I've had SEVERAL blood draws.. Spinal tap.. MRI.. CT.. All coming back with normal results... I'm afraid to go somewhere new and start ALL over again.. But I am also very unhapy with the results I am seeing thus far..

Thanks for your time..

Hi Lisa,
I have been suffering from severe migraines since Feb. 7,2012 with a headache every day, non stop. I have seen 4 different neurologists and been referred to multiple specialists. I have had 3 hospital admissions. One for 10 days, another for 9 and a third for 5 days. I suggest you find a headache specialist. I have had CT scans, MRIs, MRAs, MRVs, CT angiography, 2 spinal taps, more blood work than you can think of and so much more. It has thrown my balance off and I cannot walk in a straight line. I know how frustrating it is. I was told that my headache manifested with a vastibular migraine and transitioned to a new daily persistent headache. It sounds like a new daily persistent headache to me even though I am not a doctor. I traveled 3 hours from my home to see a doctor. I am now getting nerve blocks every 2-3 weeks, botox injections, plus my preventative meds which are really high doses and am also on narcotics for this. I hope this helps and gives you some kind of hope that you are not alone.

To Kbinns89, I'm really interested to know if your migraines are far better. I also am getting Botox, nerve block injections every 4 weeks, wear a Butrans patch (24/7 opiates--low dose), plus take 2 daily meds for my migraines and still have a limited life. But my migraines are especially hard to treat due to it being caused by a major stroke. So how are you doing? Let me know.

To itmatsb,
My headaches and migraines are slightly better but not much. Instead of getting a severe migraine about 20 days a month, I now have one about 12-15 days a month. I always have a headache though. This just came out of nowhere and it hit me hard.

Kbinn89,

Thank you so much for your reply. It makes me happy to know that it's not just me out there. I am currently seeing a Neurologist that works in a headache clinic, but not specifically dealing with headaches.. I got turned down by the Mayo Clinic HA Specialists because I'm taking narcotics.. I'd have to be off of them for two months prior to them considering seeing me.. And so far it is the only med that has managed to give me some sort of normal life back.. I guess if you consider staying out of the hospital and not yelling at everyone on a daily basis.. My HA hasn't even been diagnosed.. Which I think is what bothers me the most.. I've been seeing the person I'm going to currently for the last five months.. I've maintained a HA journal and yet I feel no closer to an answer.. Have you had any luck getting back to a normal daily routine? Or do you just count your blessings as well that you're not in the hospital or stuck in bed... Thank you again, Lisa
