I have had migraines 2-3 times a week until last October. They are now almost everyday and I have been loosing concensious for a couple of minutes. All tests have come back negative. The neurologist thinks it is migraine clenching. No medication has worked. They are getting worse. Has anyone else been passing out with migraines?

Hello rwatts6,

I also have migraine and tension headaches. My treatment for migraine headaches are fioricet w/codeine 30mg. and Phenergan 25 mg., sumatriptan 100 mg. and now atenolol. All of these medications have helped so much with my migraine headaches.

One more thing though. My daughter never had migraine headaches until last year. It got so bad that she went to the ER and they ran all kinds of tests and all were normal. Finally, she went to a neurologist and after he ordered more tests he saw that there was a problem but wasn't sure how to diagnose it. He sent her to a well known neurosurgeon and that dr. knew in seconds after he looked at her tests what was wrong. My daughter had a major vein on the one side of her frontal lobe in her brain that was almost shut down. It was supposed to have spinal fluid in it, but it was almost flat instead of being full. Her neurosurgeon scheduled her for brain surgery the following week and sure enough that was the problem. Now she is not having any type of headaches at all. She is suffering from severe neck pain though. That is another story altogether.

If you do not get better with medications, I suggest that you go see another neurologist and don't stop until you have an answer. The neurosurgeon saved my daughter's life. In fact he said if this was not diagnosed she probably would have died from the severity of the problem at a later time.

I hope that you find another dr. and wish you good luck.

If none of the daily preventative migraine meds have not worked, then you have a very good chance of having Botox injections work. Have you tried them?

If you are having your migraines that often, do you know that taking any pain relievers more than 2 times a week can risk you getting rebound migraines?

Petadolex (an herbal med) has been tested and found to reduce migraines by 72%. Namenda (off-label) at 25% of the dose given for what its usual use is for, has helped me a lot. My Headache Specialist said that it was good with "central migraines", whatever that is.

Also have you tried Butrans patches? They have kept me out of the ER!

Let me know what you have tried.

Thank you for your input. My carotid artery is 70% blocked and I am having that fixed. I am hoping that might fix the problem. If not, I AM going to see a neurosurgeon.
