I have had migraines since I was 16 - they have gotten progressively worse as the years went by. I now have 20-25 migraines a month and they run anywhere from 3-8 days in duration each time. My migraines come on in the middle of the night and wake me from a deep sleep. Stress has been ruled out in my case, but migraines tend to 'run' in families (my mother and 2 brothers also suffer from migraines). Years ago, putting ice on my forehead and heat on the back of my neck would slowly take the migraine away.
The first thing I did with a new doctor (we moved) was keep a daily diary of what I ate and drank. This didn't show any correlation between what food I ate and when I had migraines. I have since found that sugar is my worst trigger - I discovered this after eating allot of birthday cake one year. (I use Stevia now to sweeten things and have no problem with it.) I have tried allot of preventatives and they didn't work for me. I even had a spinal implant - over a year with it, I had the same number of migraines, so I had it removed. Abortives work awhile for me and then I have to try another. Currently Zomig works for me - I take one Alleve along with putting an icebag on my forehead while I drink a strong cup of coffee. This takes care of the immediate migraine within 2 hours but does not keep it from it running on for a few days.
This condition is called Acute Chronic Migraines.
There are some natural things that work for some people, Feverfew and Riboflavin, to name a few. They didn't work for me. But I am now doing a trial with Petadolex Butterbur - it seems to be helping but I plan on doing a full 3 month trial before I make my decision about it.
Has your doctor suggested anything for you to try? You will find people on this site that have tried all different kinds of things. Maybe some of their suggestions will work for you, since your doctor isn't giving you any help. I was referred to a Pain Specialist (tried the spinal implant, hydrocodone, Oxycotin, and morphine but none of these worked for me). Please hang in there and I hope this helps direct you to some solutions.
