I have had migraines since I was 16 (45 years) and I have done what you suggested many times for different doctors (regular doctor, ob/gynn, Pain Specialists, and neurologists). Having tried all these medications and treatments have worn me out. Yesterday and today are NO MIGRAINE days, which is a Godsend. I've used Zomig, Alleve, and strong coffee for many years now and it helps immensely. The only side-effect from this is I'm so tired once the migraine is gone. This is my life.
