Electric Feeling

BodoJ posted:
Does anyone get a feeling of waves of electricity coursing through their body from head to toe? I get this incredible wave fairly regularly like when I've gotten too hot or cold for too long. Or when I've waited too long to eat or when I'm just exhausted and can't go on any more. Or even when I'm really stressed out? It is accompanied by cramping and pain. Does anyone else get this tingling / electrical feeling? Is there anything to do for it? It's so hard to live with.

BodoJ,

It's called Lhermitte's sign and it is an MS symptom. It can be treated with medications, so talk to your doctor about your options.

@ Kim,

Would this be the same as having a vibration in you chest? I have what feels like a cell phone on vibrate in my shirt pocket. It comes and goes. Never can figure out what triggers it.
They say: MS, you don't get it unless you got it. Well...I still don't get it! ;^)

Muzz,

That or one of your buddies glued a joy buzzer to your chest while you were sleeping

You'd know if it's Lhermitte's sign if you feel the sensation whenever you lower your head towards your chest. It stops as soon as you raise your head.

I get all sorts of weird stabs and buzzes and pings in the limbs and torso. It's Ma Bell (aka Central Nervous System) telling us our connection is out of order.

No. It's a tingling electric feeling that sort of washes over my whole body. Afterward, I have trouble thinking talking moving, balance issues. Miserable.

I get the electric feeling when really exhausted. I don't have trouble thinking/moving/etc. after though. I'm actually not sure the electric feeling is MS versus what healthy people feel when exhausted. Maybe we all get that, but yours worsens your MS symptoms?

Wow, yes I get that too! Only happened twice both times when I was lying down. Such a rush from brain to toes and then it was gone. I could feel it move down my body. Mine was kind of scarey. Each time I stayed down until I knew I could resume activity safely.

Will have to look into the "L" what ever.

I get that exact sensation whenever I've done something physically exhausting, over my limit, and in a short period of time...such as bringing in groceries, washing dishes, etc. When I sit down to rest I feel the "wave" course over me as you describe. Mine passes after I've rested tho, and doesn't have other symptoms or pain, or come at other times.

I have found that keeping from getting tired, and reducing your stress-- through any and all means possible-- have been the two most important things that have helped me overall.

And, when I get down, my physical therapist always told me to "Fight for It" during session. I just constantly tell myself that. I'm hoping one day it will become a habit! Sorry I can't offer a magic pill but as you know, they haven't told us about one yet!

BodoJ,

I have a continuous humming, buzzing or electric feeling throughout my entire body, It will last most of the day and at times I have to take something to help me sleep in order to make it go away. It is also accompanied by alot of pressure in my forehead. Not pain, just pressure, I also have dizziness when the buzzing is strong. Not sure if I am the only one with all of these symptoms but it sure scares me.

My legs have also become hypersensative. When the docotr taps my kne, my leg flies up higher than I have ever been ever to lift it before. Good Grief!! Does anyone know if these are signs of MS. I just have a pre-diagnosis but no one will put it on paper yet.

This forum is such a wonderful place to listen and learn from others. Thank you all!

I have had a simular senstion but it will start in my feet
(I normally have no feeling in either of my feet) and continue up to my head. It usually happens when I have gotten into bed at night to go to sleep. It is a very strange feeling.

You need to get a lumbar puncture test. Then you can put it on paper.

I have had this feeling of late. I don't know how bad it must have been but my husband said he felt the bed vibrate (weird). I also experience sharp electrical barbs along with debilitating burning in my left foot. I have recently had tests to see if it is MS or form. My daughter was diagnosed 12 months ago with MS
