my sister found out she is 4 and 1/2 months pregnant. she has been on prescription pain medications for several years, such as fentanyl and moriphine. is the baby addicted right now? if she weens herself off will the baby be born ok or addicted? can she continue on these meds if taken at low dosage?

Hi Anon and Welcome!

Hopefully you sister has seen an OBGYN to begin prenatal care and make a plan for her baby and her pain control. If she has not please advise her to do so ASAP.

Unfortunately, it is difficult to answer your questions without knowing your sister's health history and medication history. Here are some resources to share with her -

You can also look up the meds she takes using our Drug and Medication Center for side effects.

Hoping you find answers soon and please keep us posted,
Elizabeth
