Can't soothe 7 month old.

My 7 month old gets so tired that he refuses his bottle, and does nothing but scream. I have treid everything i can think of to try too soothe him and nothhing works. I have gotten to the point where I have to just put him to bed and let him cry himself to sleep. Should I not do that
