Rapid infant head growth?

I have a 3 month old daughter. She was born 1 week early after being induced due to IUGR (I have high blood pressure).

At birth, her head circumference was round about the 9th percentile, as was her weight. At 7 weeks, her head had increased to the 25th, as had her weight. At 8 weeks, it had jumped to the 75th percentile. Her head grew by an inch in a week. Her weight had stayed around the 9th percentile. Our family Dr assumed there had been some kind of measurement or recording error, so asked us to come back in 4 weeks, which was today. As of today, her head circumference is on the 95th percentile line, her weight is on the 9th.

He is referring us to the pediatrics dept at our local hospital, although he says that he is not concerned (her facial features are normal, soft spot is as it should be etc), he feels he can't ignore the measurements.

My brother has a really big head - but it was that way from birth (he's just about grown into it at 20!), the rest of our families (and our two son's) all have fairly average sized heads.

If anyone has any words of experience, they would be very welcome.

Hello Jolou82 and Welcome -

I wanted to pass along a discussion with expert response that may have some helpful information for you -

Baby's head measuring large/growing too quickly.

See if this sounds familiar and please keep us posted about what you find out when you see the ped department.

So others can also compare, what is her weight, length and actual head measurement?
