9 month old scratching till she bleeds.

My 9month old has had the habit of scratching her face and ears for a few months now. At first we thought it was a soothing thing because she does it a lot of times when she's tired or mad, but she's been doing it more often often lately and more aggressively. Her forehead and ears constantly have tiny scratches that bleed. She also has only ever slept through the night maybe three times. She's usually a happy easy going baby, I'm starting to wonder if the scratching and not sleeping could be connected? Has anyone one heard of anything or had a similar situation? Getting a little worried and seriously over tired. Please help!
