Reflexology Question

I"m just getting interested in this. I don't know much about it.

I had wanted a book on this topic for a while now, and when I was at Ross this past weekend, I found one for $6. Great information, full of photos.

Anyhow, from what I've read so far, the pressure points on the feet and hands directly correlate to a certain body part or internal organ or central nervous system type stuff. These pressure points are the same as the pressure points acupuncturists use, the book says.

I'm wondering if any of you have had experience with this method of healing or wellness? How it worked or didn't work for you?

I tried certain techniques on my children this past weekend: one for my 15yod and her menstrual cramping, and one technique for my 10yod.

The massage techniques were easy to understand, and the girls felt totally relaxed and relieved of stress when they were done with their sessions...

But as for major issues, I have yet to try these techniques/massages out.

Anyhow, just curious...

The Benefits of Foot Reflexology

Known benefits of foot reflexology include relaxation and relief of stress; promotion of restful sleep, assistance with elimination or reduction of digestive problems; overall wellness and improved mental health; and pain management for chronic or acute pain. Less obvious benefits resulting from foot reflexology include reduction of reliance on prescription and over-the-counter drug remedies, savings on overall health care expenses and greater enjoyment in life by alleviating some of life's common stressors noted above. Because the feet and hands help set the tension level for the rest of the body they are an easy way to interrupt the stress signal and reset homeostasis, the body's equilibrium.

Some of the benefits those undergoing reflexology have experienced include:
  • Relaxation and stress relief
  • Pain reduction
  • Amelioration of symptoms for health concerns
  • Rejuvenation of tired feet
  • Improvement in blood flow
  • Impact on physiological measures (e. g. blood pressure and cholesterol
  • Beneficial for post-operative recovery and pain reduction
  • Enhancement of medical care (e. g. cancer, phantom limb pain, and hemodialysis patients)
  • Adjunct to mental health care (e. g. depression, anxiety, Post traumatic stress disorder)
  • Complement to cancer care (pain, nausea, vomiting, anxiety)
  • Easier birthing / delivery / post-partum recovery
