On-line quiz: What's Your Ecological Footprint?
MontanaMama2009 posted:
Take this quick and easy on-line quiz to find out what YOUR ecological footprint is!

That quiz gave me the result:
"If everyone on the planet lived my lifestyle, we would need 3.38 Earths!"

Wow. And I thought we lived fairly eco-friendly.

Actually, it breaks down my footprint in global acres by consumption category, and I'm far below in my carbon footprint (I was 35.1% versus 91.4% nationally), Food footprint was 52.6% versus 65.7% nationally, 26.1% in housing footprint versus 31.6% nationally, and 17.3% versus 57.7% in goods and services footprint.

That was really interesting!
See my results (pie graphs and chart) by visiting the link above.

There's also a place to click to learn how to reduce your footprints even further.
Me, DH of 16 years, DD1 (15yo), DD2 (10yo), DD3 (nearly 2), a labrador, a tabby cat, a lop-eared bunny, and goldfish!  Life is grand!

Cool quiz! Mine came out to 3.79 earths.

Carbon footprint was 47.99. I commute a long way to work!

Food footprint was 52.99.

Housing footprint was 7.03.

Goods and services was 39.52.
MontanaMama2009 replied to leftcoastgirl's response:
How do you get your housing footprint to be so low?????

leftcoastgirl replied to MontanaMama2009's response:
I'm guessing it's because I live in an apartment building with 40 units. Efficiency of resources when you pack so many people into one place.
leftcoastgirl replied to MontanaMama2009's response:
Also, even though my housing footprint was smaller, you still beat me in everything else, including "number of earths"!!
sarahann1978 responded:
Mine were kind of high, I think a lot related to living in a fragile ecosystem in the middle of nowhere. We also don't have a lot of locally grown, organic produce to purchase.

Total 191.49
Carbon 67.83
Food 65.7
Housing 32.96
Goods and Services 25

The only category that was barely above the country average was housing. I would say that I feel that it is pretty accurate, I'm not a total green person, but I try to do better than the average American.

As a side note I think the units are in acres, not percentages which is how our totals are over 100. It says: "MY FOOTPRINT IN GLOBAL ACRES BY CONSUMPTION CATEGORY"

MontanaMama2009 replied to sarahann1978's response:
You're right about the ACRES being the unit and not the percentage...good catch.

I'm so bad with math skills...that's why I"m a court stenographer! No math involved except the bill for transcription fees and what's my paycheck! LOL

Thanks for participating.

I'm trying to figure out ways to lower those numbers of mine. Hmmmm.....

My Results:

3.42 Earths (That was what I got right now. I took the quiz earlier and got 3.5 earths but accidentally clicked off of it... I don't know what I answered differently!)

Total Acres: 132.8
Carbon: 69
Food: 19.02
Housing: 11.43
Good and Services: 33.35

Carbon is worst, probably because we drive alot of places on weekends to visit family. DH and I both have to commute kinda far to work, but we live smack in the middle of where we are both employed, so there isn't really a better way! Some of the other stuff doesn't really apply to us either... we don't own our home, so we can't just go replacing everything with energy efficient stuff, and I don't think the condo association would appreciate us starting a composting pile on our front porch lol. Overall, not too bad though.
