Since I was about 6 I have had a hard lump on my bottom lip on the outside of it, near where the the lip meets my regular skin and facial hair grows. I thought I had gotten injured waking up during an oral surgery because it feels hard like scar tissue and seems to be under the skin itself. This has caused lots of stress in my life because i get self conscious about it and I have been afraid that it is a tumor, or even a wart. I have had 2 warts in my life, on on my right index finger, one on my left thumb on the back part of my hand for both. They are both gone after treating them with wart remover. I also get these spots that are white and show up when i've gotten my tan back. They usually go away but I am unsure of what they are. in the past month I've got a little tiny lump thing that sort of resembles a wart and this is causing me to worry that both things by/on my lip are warts. If you could please offer and advice or assistance I would really like to know. I am doing my best to not stress about it because I know that makes things worse. a few years ago I punctured the larger hard tissue to see if anything would drain out and it didn't. There was not much bleeding either I stuck a sterile sewing needle through the hard mass, it hurt on the outside of the skin but as far as pushing through the lump there was not much feeling inside. I have a photo that i would like to upload if possible because with all my searching i have not found anything online that looks like my lip. Thank you very much for any help you're able to offer me.

Hi Mapinkytoe,

Welcome to the Oral Health community and thanks for your question.

Sorry to hear these lumps are causing you so much insecurity. Have you ever had them examined by a doctor or asked your Dentist when visiting?

It's impossible to diagnose online, I'm sorry to say, but perhaps someone from our community might chime in with a similar experience soon.

I would encourage you to also participate on our Skin Problems & Treatments Communit y for more support.

Here's a slideshow with Common Skin Problems Pictures that you may find helpful, too. I hope that helps.

Please let keep us posted on what you find out and any other questions you might have!

Has anyone learned anything about this? I had a hard lump just like in your picture for about a year maybe a year and a half. Now, all the sudden, it is huge and swollen. I went to the urgent care yesterday morning and they told me it was herpes but another doctor the same day and she said it was an infected hair follicle. Now it is huge and an extremely pain in the ass. IDK what to do and or think. I am terrified it might be the herp and I hope and pray that it isnt. Someone please respond. For the love of god, I feel like this is better than any doctor has been telling me. I am tired of everyones mixed answers. Respond back, please and thank you!

I had the same thing. I walked around with it for about 2 years and it was beginning to get to me and today my bf looked at me and said what is on your lip....mind you he has noticed it about a year ago so he knew it was there but to him it looked different so I went and looked at it and it had festered for a lack of a better word but it was similar to a white head so I squeezed it and I thought it would never stop oozing ( I know gross) but it went down right away and its now gone. So you can either be patient and wait or go in and have it removed.
