Tooth Decay from the inside of the tooth

My 24 year old son is a Ewings Sarcoma survivor. He is having some dental problems and the dentist told him that his tooth bacteria is working from the inside out. Could this be a side effect of the chemo and radiation from his cancer treatment.

Hi supplyofficer,

I really need more information to properly assess the situation. Can you tell me exactly which chemotherapy and radiotherapyyour son has had and when he completed treatment. Has he had routine dental care? Is he in remission?

I have not heard of a situation like this. Typically there are no bacteria within the tooth so I am at a loss. Perhaps there was a misunderstanding between you and your dentist. If you can provide more information I may be able to answer your question.
