Hurting Gums and Teeth

What would cause my gums to hurt really bad and also my bottom wisdom tooth hurts and I know it needs to come out. Would that cause all of my gums to hurt?

Hi NicoleRoseMatthews,

Unfortunately without seeing you clinically I can't answer the question directly. I have some questions which my help us pinpoint the problem.

How old are you? When did the pain start? When was your last dental or dental hygiene appointment? When was your last series of dental X-rays? Is the pain worse at night or morning? Are you clenching or grinding your teeth? Does anything relieve the sin or is it constant? Do you think the painis coming from the erupting tooth? Do you think the pain is coming from the bone and gum tissue?

If you think the pain is primarily due to the wisdom tooth you shoud see an oral surgeon. Occasionally if the teeth are half in and half out food and oter debris can get under te flap of tissue behind the last visible tooth and the impacted tooth and cause quite an infection.

If you cannot afford a private dentist look on the American Dental Educators Association website where you can find hospitals and schools in your area offering lower cost surgical procedures.
