Zev Kaufman, DDS responded:
Dear michalallenclark:

You should take your child to the pediatric dentist for an examination and an X-ray of the front teeth as soon as possible.

Darkening of a tooth usually means that the nerve, and tissue cells inside the tooth have died. It is usually a consequence of trauma, such as being hit in the mouth.

If the teeth die, the body will start a "rejection" process since it cannot keep dead tissues. This process will turn into an infection which can affect the adult teeth growing behind the baby teeth.

Please do not delay and take your child to a pediatric dentist.

Best of luck,
Dr. Zev Kaufman
