My child is in intense pain after a root canal
avatar
Tammtd posted:
My 7 year old son had a root canal done a day and a half ago. The endo said he had a very bad abscess too. He knocked half his tooth out A few months ago and the dentist said he might need a root canal if the nerve was damaged.. Well he is taking a liquid Advil and he is taking an antibiotic but he is still in intense pain. Screaming and crying. How can I manage his pain? Im trying ice, warm towels, massage. Is this normal pain? How long will it last? I know I am giving him more than the recommend amount of Advil but he's screaming. Tomorrow is Sunday so I have to wait to contact his dentist and endo till Monday

Dear Tammtd:

Sorry for the delay in answering your question. I was not available.

Yes it is sometimes possible for root canal treatment to hurt after it is performed. You must, and I hope that you already did, call your dentist. There is nothing that you could have done differently.

Best of luck,
