Torn lingual frenulum
Lorenita2005 posted:
While I was getting x-rays, on the front bottom teeth, the dental hygienist must have pushed down too hard because the little tissue that connects the tongue to the mouth is torn and red from broken blood vessels (I looked it up, it is called the lingual frenulum). I was told that it should heal in a week's time. I hope that it does because it is quite painful if I do certain things and it makes talking difficult. It has been 4 days and I feel better, but it still hurts, but I am so nervous to talk, afraid I might hurt it more. The dentist did give me Peridex, the oral rinse to use, so I have been. Will it heal? How much longer? Will it heal back straight, or crooked? It kind of looks crooked, but I have never really looked at it before....sigh..this stinks, any advice is appreciated. I am sure I am probably just overreacting, but it is kind of a big deal!

If there is small tear in the frenulum then it will heals on its own without stitches with the use of oral rinse. However it might take a week or 2 for complete healing. The initial complications might include continued bleeding, or unrecognized injury to the roots of the teeth or the bone of the upper jaw.
