Private Clinic or Big Hospital?

Which is better to go to, a private dental clinic or a dental clinic in a big hospital and why?

I probably need a tooth pulled, but in addition to procrastinating, I don't know which way to turn.

What's your opinion?

I don't think any hospitals around here have dental clinics within. Ultimately it's the dentist that's important and not where their clinic is located. A private dentist is more than capable of pulling a tooth.

What makes me cautious is the the hospitals and the private clinics have such rapid turnovers--They don't stay longer than 3 years, often times less, and they are gone. Dentists that my insurance covers don't stay until they retire anymore.

The dentist who pulled my tooth years ago did a great job. But she's been gone for years. The dentist who is left at the private clinic doesn't tell you anything unless you ask. He's the pits. Getting information from him is "like pulling teeth"! No pun intended.

Since neither the private clinic nor the big hospital doctors stay for any length of time, which would you choose knowing this information?

Thanks for responding.

Zev Kaufman, DDS replied to larsstarscanary's response:
Dear Lars:
You are right! This is, unfortunately, a question of economics. Most clinics and hospitals will have a high turn over of dentists, until they are ready to leave and start their own office. When the dentist IS the owner, he/she is much more inclined to spend the time and concentrate on the human relations part of the procedure as much as on the procedure itself. If you can afford private practice, and pay the fee, you will find many capable dentists to address your needs. However, if you have financial problems, I prefer that you go to a hospital based residency program. You will have a younger dentist working on you, but they will be supervised by an more experienced attending.
Best of luck,
