Scheduled for surgery and have a high white blood count

I am scheduled for a TKR in 8 days (Feb 11th, 2013). I went to the
surgeon this past week and he said my white blood count is high.
He wants me to have it repeated next Saturday. That is two days before surgery and he won't even have the results back in time for Mondays surgery. Has anyone gone thorugh this. If you did what were the end results. I have heard that if I have an infection and it goes
through my bloodstream it could make the surgery a disaster. I just
don't know what to do at this point

There's not anything you can do other than follow your doctor's instructions. It shouldn't take that long to get results from the blood test.
