    I am a 42 yr old male with possible osteoporosis.I fractured my tibia coming down the stairs and now it's not healing and has gotten worse and now i have fractures on my other leg how painful is osteoperosis?
    they have me on lortabs but i don't want to be on them for the rest of my life what can i do any help would be appreciated.

    Osteoporosis is not painful until you fracture. I would ask my doctor to order you a bone density test. That's the only way you'll know the state of your bone health. They aren't expensive either.

    In the meantime, go to the National Osteoporosis Foundation website ( ) for a lot of reliable information and answers to your questions.

    Just and FYI - my brother was found to have low bone density when he was 42. Just because you're a young man doesn't mean it can't happen; however it is usually secondary to something else. Heavy drinking as a teen into young adult can suppress testosterone production and affect bone density as can any meds you might be taking long term for other conditions.

    You need to be evaluated.

    thank you for your reply,and as a former alcoholic.(and it didn't help i was on lithium for ten years so i'm assuming my hormones are messed up.)but i have a bone density test coming up in December.thanx for the info.
