Can Chemo Make Caretakers Sick Too?
avatar
myblessedlife posted:
My sister had her 1st chemo for stage III ovarian on 9/29 & was hospitalized on 10/3 for complications from the chemo & the c. I tried to take care of most everything i could for her, & in the hospital too, until 10/7. My q is this; Can i get sick from the chemo also by being so "hands on" with all that was happening, (body fluids...)? I started getting really sick on the 8th & even though i have medical problems of my own, i'm really alot sicker then i should be i think. There was some information about home precautions but i wasn't thinking anything like this...

I would ask for guidelines from your sisters doctor but also go the American Cancer Society web site for more info. Being a care giver is very stressful and that may have caused you to get sicker but your Doctor should really answer this question for you. But bless you for being their for your Sister.
