Back at work!

And Madden is not liking it. Friday was actually my first day back at work and I was super exhausted. normally he'll sleep a good 4-5 hour stretch once he goes down for the night and then wakes up every 2-3 hours after to eat until 6am where he'll just wake up no hungry but wants me to bring him to bed with me to sleep for another hour or 2. Well Thursday night he did his long stretch. It was a little bit shorter though, between 3-4 hours. he woke up around 1:30am to eat then went back to sleep. as soon as i put him down he would start being finicky. he wasn't fussing or anything. he would just squirm. i'd pick him up and he'd go back to sleep. put him down and he would start squirming again. we were doing this for a half an hour before i just decided to bring him to bed with me and he fell right asleep! It's like he knew i wouldn't be there for our 6am cuddle time. Come 4:30am he woke up to eat but since I had to be at work at 6am, this feed was DH's shift.

So I thought maybe this was a one time thing where he just wanted to be close to me before he doesn't see me for the whole day. Well last night he only did a 3 hour stretch and woke up at 12:30am to eat. went back to sleep and woke up at 2:15am hungry again. fed him and put him down again. then he wakes up at 3:20am and he is wide awake. I feed him and finished a full bottle! usually in the middle of the night he only takes in 2-3 oz but he went full on 5oz and he was wide awake! so i thought maybe he'd fall asleep if i brought him to bed with me but he just wanted to play. actually he just wanted to roll over from his tummy to back. he gets a kick out of that. come 4am I tell DH to take him because I needed to be up at 4:45 to pump before I head to work.

So here I am now...exhausted. Sorry so long. I just needed to rant. It's like he knows I'm not going to be home so he stayed up. I hope this isn't going to be an every day thing. It's good to be back at work though. At least I get to be on the boards more often now. I miss my little man though. Even though he kept me up most of the night.

Hi Jane!

Sorry you had to go back to work, it's rough. I think it took me a good few weeks to get into some sort of routine. When I went back to work Alex was getting up at least twice a night and it was hard, but it got better as he got older and he started sleeping better. Enjoy your little guy when you get home tonight!

Ah Emily! it is rough! The nights are crazy. He's not letting me get any sleep. And I miss him so much! The first 2 days of work wasn't so bad but now it's starting to hit me since I don't see him as often anymore and not doing our morning routine from when I was home. I really do hope it gets easier.

(((HUGS))) It will get better, it will just take time. I can remember not minding being up with Alex in the night b/c I missed him during the day and we got some cuddle time. I let that go on for two months and our pediatrician told me it was time to get him to sleep through the night (that was around 6 months). I'm sure Madden is missing you like crazy so he thinking getting up during the night is fun! Hang in there!! xoxo

I'm sorry to hear that he's having a tough time adjusting to you being at work. I love the name Madden!! I go back to work in a few weeks and I'm hoping that since my babies are used to my mom being here every day, they won't even miss me. I'm only going to be working 2-3 days a week, so maybe they won't notice, LOL!

Wow sorry you are so tired. It's hard enough going back to work but being tired sucks. I am sure he misses you. His sleep pattern will get better. I promise. Eliza had her days and nights mixed up for the first 7 wks then she was up every couple of hrs(starting around 1am) until her 4mth bday when we started giving formula at night and she started sleeping all night. It's Luke age knew I needed sleep since I went back to wk a few wks ago. Hang in there!

So Madden's doing better lately. We've got a new middle of the night/morning routine going on. and he's actually sleeping a lot better too. He'll do his first 4 hour stretch and then wake up around 1-2am. and then he'll go back to sleep for another 2 hours and then wake up and squirm around. the good news is that he's not hungry at that time. He used to wake up every 2 hours to eat. But now he just wants me to get him and sleep on the bed with us. so I'll grab him and he'll sleep on the bed for another 2 hours before he wakes up hungry. by that time it's DH's shift because I'm already out of the house on my way to work. I think Madden just wants to be near me since we don't have cuddle time in the morning anymore. Love that little guy! He's definitely a mama's boy. Some nights are still rough but for the most part it's getting better. I'm somewhat getting more sleep even though my body feels like it hasn't. I really can't wait til he sleeps through the night though.
