OPK Question

cacahead27 posted:
DH bought me the fancy First Response OPK last month. I'm happy to report that I actually had a positive LH surge last week. Since I had so may tests leftover (that will go bad before I need them again) I figured I'd keep peeing on a stick every morning. So my question: is it normal to have a positive test multiple days in a row?
I know that the OPKs test for the LH surge and that when you get the first postive that means you're suppose to ovulate in the next 24-48 hours. So does the test keep showing positive because the LH sticks around?

Are you sure that's when you were supposed to ovulate? I thought OPK's also detect HCG.....Could you already be pregnant?

Well, that would be amazing. I tried researching websites to see what could be the reason behind the results, and being pregnant can affect the results. How it affects the results exactly, I don't know. I guess I'll see what happens in a week or two.

Hey Sarah!

I can remember getting positive OPK's for a few days in a row. From what I remember in using them, you have to start testing several days before you think you are going to ovulate, kind of like so you can have a negative as a base, and then the first time you get a positive, then you *should* ovulate within 12 to 36 hours after the first positive test. I used them in the evenings, but I know people that have used them a few times during the day they can have more accurate results. So I guess having multiple positives is just that the LH is still in your system, but probably decreasing. Are they still nice strong positives because like Stacy said, they can detect hcg as well, so anything is possible!!!

I am driving myself crazy!
Here is what is happening in my brain: Last month I had a 24 day cycle. Today is CD25 and no period. I keep thinking that I FEEL my period starting so I go to the bathroom. I sit down and no evidence to be found. TMI - I figure when I wipe, then I'll find my evidence of a BFN. And nothing. This happened a dozen times today. (and continues to happen) As you may assume, my brain keeps preparing itself for the BFN evidence and then when I don't find any, I get my hopes up that maybe it worked. Maybe I'm the statistic of a woman who dealt with IF for TTC#1 and then conceiving naturally with baby #2.
I told you...CRAZY.

DH is understanding. he knows I'm crazy with or without TTC. He told me to lean on you guys because you know. My good friend, who conceived the first time they tried, can't understand. I don't feel that she's being insensitive, but she can't understand that ALL the baggage from last time is right there with me each time my period shows up. It's just that much harder this time because I know how hard it can get. I'm going to take a HPT tomorrow morning if my evidence of a BFN doesn't show up tonight. It would be amazing, words couldn't describe how I would feel, if we got preggo on our own. But I'm already planning to call the clinic to set up whatever tests I'll need to do before they'll start the FET process.
Good times. I'll let you guys know when I can how it turned out. Thanks for any support. I'd prefer to rant to you guys than to the TTC board.

Aw Sarah -

(((HUGS))) We so know what you are going through, and I do think that IF will always be a part of TTC for us. Hell, I'm on BCP and we have talked about trying for Baby No. 2 in the next year and I'm already planning for the struggle... it's just how we are wired now, so vent to us anytime! I'm praying for good things to happen on their own!! Keep us posted!

Lots of hugs to you..it never gets less stressful to go though this stuff. I was like that with the bathroom trips when waiting on results from our IVF cycle..I think I peed every hour just to see if AF showed up...I remember that panic feeling all to well..I have my fingers crossed that you will be one of those lucky ones and if not keep posting here, we understand-the frustration and despair at times but I always found comfort with all of you and some laughs...praying for good news for you!
Heather (34) DH (36), IVF no. 1 worked for us...Cole and Reid born 9/20/10 via natural delivery, so thankful for our twin boys!!!

How I wish you were right, Stacy. My period waited a few more days, but it eventually showed up. She's a cruel bitch isn't she?

I had already cried my tears of another month with a BFN, so at this point I took action. I called the fertility clinic to set up a return visit appt. I just want to get the info on what the plan will be if we need to go forward with assistance. Unfortunately, it's not as easy as I thought it was going to be. I have to meet with my OB so she can determine what tests I need to do before my insurance will authorize me to see a fertility specialist. The nurse said that there might be a chance that I need to try for six months before I'll be viewed as having fertility issues regardless of my previous history. We're hoping she's wrong and that I don't need to do much of anything since I have frozen embryos for a FET. We'll see.

I have my OB appt mid-October and then a couple weeks later I have a tentative IF appt. The IF appt is barring that I get the authorization from my insurance right away. To me this means, if I need assistance to get preggo, I won't be preggo until early next year. This was NOT my plan!

This sucks! Thanks for checking in everyone.

Awww i'm sorry she came Sarah. I really hope you don't have to wait that long for them to consider it IF. It just doesn't make any sense especially with your history. There's a reason why you have frozen embryos for an FET. Dr's are such geniuses sometimes. but ((((HUGS)))) for you! I hope everything gets approved quick!

Ugh Sarah!!!!! SO darn annoying that she showed up!!!! I swear we should all be able to get pregnant instantaneously the second time around after having suffered through what we did the first time!
I had a bunch of frozen embryos left also after my original IVF cycle, but went straight to the RE, rather than to my OB who was useless. At that point it had barely been a year since I gave birth to Evan and the insurance company didn't want to provide any coverage because I hadn't been "infertile" for a year. RE's office deals with the insurance company all the time and was able to write a letter stating that due to my "condition" it was unlikely I would conceive naturally, blah, blah and we bypassed the wait period. Hopefully if you decide to go the FET route they will be able to side step your insurance company too. And I also have to say that after going through a fresh IVF cycle, a FET is a piece of cake!!! But I'm still crossing my fingers that you get a surprise natural BFP!

Awwwhhhh I'm sorry the bitch reared her ugly head. I also hope that if you do decide to go the fet route that you won't have to wait long. The fet is a lot but nothing compared to a fresh cycle. Keep us posted.
