HAS ANYONE ELSE EXPERIENCED JOINT PAIN CAUSED BY KEPPRA? IS IT PERMANENT?

I have been on Keppra (an anti-seizure medicine) since suffering a serious case of HELLP Syndrome (an extreme form of eclampsia) two years ago. HELLP ruptured my liver and gave me a stroke that put me in a coma. I had $11,000 in blood transfusions over two days, emergency c-section, brain surgery, a tracheotomy and craniotomy all blessedly covered by my dual union provided medical insurance.

Two years later, however, I am suffering from ongoing and increasingly worse joint pain and I read on epilepsy.com that it can be a side fx of keppra. My Neurologist doesn't think that keppra is the culprit. I am being weaned off the Keppra, fortunately, but as I'm being weaned the pain grows. Looking for feedback and advice.

In the meantime I am taking calcium, MSM, Chondroitin Glucosamine and doing regular exercises. However, the chronic pain worries me and I wonder if anyone else has recommendations. Thanks!

I am sorry, but I don't know anything about pain and Keppra. Hopefully once you are off the Keppra, you and your doctor can decide if it was the drug that caused your pain, or something else. Hopefully, it will be the drug. It may well take getting off of it completely for a while to find this out.

Take care, Annette
