I am having pains in my legs that is hard to explain. It's several pains that start in my feet and go up my legs. I feel like sometimes someone is hitting my muscle with a hammer. It is so painful. Also if I drive a certain amount of time at one time it could be as little as 15 minutes I'm hurting so bad I can't hardly walk. Does anyone know what could possibly be wrong? Thank you for any input.

Hi Summit and welcome to WebMD,

Unfortunately, no one online can guess at what this may be. Please pursue answers with your doctor and let us know what they find out. We can be here to offer you support and insight once you know what you're dealing with.

I have similar problem. Diagnosed with neuropathy in Feb 2012, and pain in feet and legs was unbearable - like walking/standing on sharp rocks. Doc put me on Gabapentin, it helped, esp. for sleep. Hurt so bad, decided to see podiatrist. He x-rayed; turns out I have inflamed tendons in feet and Achilles heel as well as neuropathy. Asked him why this happened, is it my shoes? Said don't know it just happens. Others with same diagnosis stated that they were told the same thing by diff docs. Started me on regime of shots in specific areas of feet every 2 weeks and worked up to wearing a splint on one foot 8 hrs at night. Just had my third set of shots. Still having pain, but NOTHING like it was. Can walk fairly normal again, still in txt. Ask around, find a good podiatrist - some of them try to sell you stuff you don't need. Hope this helps!

What does your doctor say? What tests have been done so far? Are you a diabetic, do you smoke?

Take care, Annette

Hello Annette, Ive been told its fibro. It makes it hard to do anything even on a good day. I go to the stores fora short time and my foot pain is terrible. The pain is always there. Ive just recently moved to a bigger city and Im crossing my fingers that I can find a goood doctor. The last one I had in my old town town answered my question about believing in fb with"Im really trying to wrap my head around it" so Ive had drs with doubt. Thank you for replying to me Annette. No I dont smoke. Roxanne.

I have FMS, have had it for over 14 years now. I would suggest you see a rheumatologist who has FMS experience to confirm the diagnosis.

I do not believe in someone who says they do not believe in FMS, I would just move on to a different doctor. I have never had a doctor who doubted its existence.

If you do not have peripheral neuropathy, and have had all the usual tests done for other illnesses that can cause pain, and your symptoms fit with FMS, see about getting treatment.

I am a bit confused because your name does not appear before, who exactly are you?

Take care, Annette

Hi, Roxane

Do you have diabetes? That can cause peripheral neuropathy also.

I had pain on the tops of my feet when I was first diagnosed with FMS. But, then it moved on up my legs and into my hips. I tried changing shoes, etc. No help. I was living in NV when I was diagnosed and moved to Oregon within a few years.

My doctor in Reno did all the usual tests to rule out other causes of pain. I had LOTS of blood drawn back then. I saw a rheumatologist at my pcp's request, he agreed with the diagnosis and my pcp treated me.

I hope you find a good doctor where you are living now. I really like my doctor I have been going to her for almost 15 years now.

Take care, Annette

Hello and thanks Annette. Ive just moved to a larger city where I feel the doctors may be more help to me. Ive had FM for almost 6 years now from a bad fall at my job. I have numbness and pain in my left leg from the knee on down. And the feet as I had mentioned. As you wrote in an earlier post about doctors who dont believe in FM, I've had my share. Im keeping my fingers crossed on the next doc. You take care too. Roxanne
