What is the best location in the world to live that avoids most phantom limb pain? I have read that the Flordia Keys are a good location?

Sorry, I don't think there is any place like that. If there were a geographical fix for any kind of pain, everyone with it would try to move there. The Florida Keys do sound nice this time of year in the Pacific Northwest...

Take care, Annette

Annette030 Thanks for responding. I lost my address link to this site. I have read in a retirement publication that the Flordia Keys was a good place for people with phantom limb pain, but I do not know? I know the pain gets worst when any weather front comes through, especially low pressure associated with rain. I do like the NW especially due to their enlighten view on euthanasia. Too many chronic pain suffers are forced into this option due to the lack of pain treatment systems that work.
My personal view is that to many people make to much money from suffering and nursing homes to make many changes. That includes illegal drug sales since the crime organizations pay a lot to politicans also.
Thanks again.

I don't know about illegal drug sales and such, but here in Oregon we do have doctor assisted suicide and very liberal laws for pain management. I appreciate both, however, I must say that chronic pain is not covered under our or any other assisted suicide laws that I am aware of. I do keep up on these things. One must be considered terminal within six months to take advantage of our assisted suicide law.

I bet your thing about the Florida Keys was meant to get retirees to move there and spend their money. Just my opinion. I would visit several times a years during the different seasons before committing to moving.

Many types of chronic pain do worsen with changes in barometric pressure, but I think it is usually higher barometric pressure rather than lows. Perhaps phantom pain works differently. The NW has not made my chronic pain any worse at all than it was in Reno, NV.

Take care, Annette

Thanks for the reply. I agree on the visiting different locations to find out what the seasons are like.
I did not know the specific rules of Washington & Oregon. The government is making it harder for doctors to provide pain medicine. Usually they only look at drug abuse rather than talking with the people who really need it. There is a lot of contraverisy over the right to die, but I think it has to be between the individual and their God. In my opinion to many greedy people make money at the expense of the sick and helpless.

I believe in freedom of choice, but about everything, not just abortion. I think it should be up to all people to make all decisions about their healthcare and other kinds of things also.

Insurance companies are the worst, they make no products, and do nothing other than making money off the sick and needy. In my humble opinion, of course.

I agree regarding insurance companies and many other things it seems that GREED is the primary interest these days. I get very upset when I see things like the recent legislative action in our state. The utility companies wanted to raise rates and paid about $200,000.00 to many in the legislature to get it. When the Governor vetoed it. The utilities paid another $250,000 to get his veto over ridden. A retired Judge wrote an article about it.
This also applies to pain. Recently in the news it said Congress was holding hearings on pain medicine abuse by doctors. A lot of people testified, but not one representative of any group or person for chronic pain was asked to testify about the needs of pain patients. You can quess the outcome of the hearings - they wanted stronger laws to make it more difficult for doctors to write pain medicine.
With the recent Surpreme Court decision to allow any corp or even foreign group to give elected officals as much money as they wanted for elections. That is why I say our country is controled by the 1% or greedy rich. In the recent Presidential election everyone has heard of the two main candidates, but who even knows there is others? They have no money to spend so no one hears about them.
I strongly feel that we need constitutional reforms soon or we will loose our democracy.
I see you write to the other individual Mary of Off Opids as have I and I can relate to her for the same reason.
I have been researching religion and euthanasia. While all religions are against suicide, which includes euthanasia, I am not sure that this is the correct way. I think it is between the individual and their God as to what to do when your condition is beyond medical help and the only future is prolonged suffering until you die. I am a Christian, but from what I have read much of the rules have been made by people without God's input as far as I can see. One example from the Christian Bible is that of Samson who asked God's permission to restore his strength so he could kill himself and his enemies. Samson at that time was blind, being tourchered and would have been killed by his enemies, so God gave him his strength back to finish things.
Sorry for being so long winded, but it is an issue close to my heart. Aside from my pain I have seen many suffering with pain, including family and no one was doing anything to really help them, sometimes there was nothing they could do and other times it appeared to be due to the cost and government regulations. Take Care, 19Lindy PS sorry for the spelling but my spell checker is not working.

No worries about spelling.

I agree that the rich really control our country, especially politically.

I used to self identify as a Christian, don't anymore. They have too many rules written rather arbitrarily by men. The choosing of which books to include in the Christian Bible was a political move by Constantine. I believe all things pertaining to one's health should be between God (if you believe in one) and the person and his/her doctor, nobody else.

Take care, Annette

Annette030 Thank you, I am a Christian, but I don't attend church regularily any more due to changes in my feelings. You must be well read as there are not that many that I know of who know that Constantine I ran the group who selected the books of the Bible to be used. Have you read any of the material on the lost books of the Bible? I do read and study a lot regarding religion, not just Christian.
I wanted to know if you knew how I could get more information on euthanasia in Washington & Oregon? I am trying to get more information on this. I have read a book on suicide and the Bible. Also after reading about a man in England who is totally paralized and was petitioning for the right to die I got a lot of information on other religions and their views on suicide from the BBC article about him. They said no to his petition.
I do not believe in suicide as a rule, I worked as a counselor for many years, with suicidal clients and for the most part they did not really want to die, they wanted a solution to their problems. But the attitude that people have toward them is sad, the pastor of my church said she hates to do burial services for suicide victums and the founder of Methodism was credited with saying that suicide people should be left in the open for animals to finish off. Of course some religions do dispose of their dead by letting animals eat the dead bodies, but Christians don't.
You are correct the Bible has been altered according to some reserchers by errors and the worst is some was intentional to give power to certain groups. I can not believe anyone who has true faith in God or Jesus could deliberatily change writings that quote Him for their own benefit.
Any way any information you might have on euthanasia or how I could get some from the two states in the US who allow euthanasia. Some time ago a city in Switzerland where many foreigns go for euthanasia voted to continue to allow tourists to come for this purpose, when the government wanted to restrict it to Swiss only. I think if Americans were allowed to vote on it they would allow it everywhere in the US, but I believe our government is moving more toward less personal freedom and more control by government officals and the greedy rich.
As a disabled veteran who fought for freedom I find this very discouraging and I would consider moving to another country if I coould. I am not trying to run away, but I am to old and disabled to want to fight any more if I do not have too.
When I tell people that we need to have a constitutional admendment that all elections be publicly funded with no outside funds, not even personal funds of the candidate. Most people say it would cost too much, but in this current election I think I read that the government has already provided matching funds of 7 billion dollars to the candidates. To me that should be enough for all elected officals, but I am not sure of the figures on this I would need to do more research first. Even George Washington in his farwell address talked about the dangers of political parties. He was right, but no one listened. Now political parties have almost total control of our elected leaders.
Sorry for getting off the subject, but if you would happen to have an address or site that I could contact to get more information on euthanasia in Washington or Oregon I would appreciate it.
Have you heard about the petition by doctors to increase controls on Opiates? I signed a petition against this and asked my friends to do so too. There is usually information on this web site about it if you are interested. Thank You, 19Lindy

Legal suicide in Oregon is called physician assisted suicide, maybe if you do a search on it on Google??? The one in Washington is very similar to Oregon's. It is kind of like abortion was in the olden days, you have to get two letters from doctors, etc., etc. Then a doctor can give you a RX for the drugs, but you must be able to take them on your own, under your own steam so to speak.

My spouse suggests that ALL (now) elected offices be turned into draft jobs, and you drafted, but only get one in a lifetime for a limited term. He says that would eliminate professional politicians. It would also eliminate democracy as we know it, oh well...

I did a paper on comparative religion in High School Spanish class when I was a senior. I also was forced to take the Episcopalian classes for confirmation with older students with my older brother. We had a great priest who was very open about everything religious.

Take care, Annette
