Question about Cronic pain Canada

SeraphimEd posted:
Hello, this is my first time posting here.
I live in Vancouver BC Canada, and I am suffering from chronic pain.
It started around six months ago when I had a kidney stone removed.
It was extremely painful, but that pain went away after some time.
About three weeks after, I started to get really bad pain in my hands (worst in my fingers), below my knees, the back of neck, and my hips.
Some days it is so bad I spend the better part of my morning crying.
I was out with my wife yesterday, and I almost screamed when I tried to hold chopsticks. I have a newborn baby girl, and sometimes it hurts too much to walk with her, or worse even hold her.

I don't want to send up any red flags here, but I have even considered suicide on days it is that bad. I don't believe I would ever do it, but when the pain is so bad, I feel so helpless...

I have been to several doctors now (including many trips to the hospital), and one put me on Tylenol 3s, and tramadol (which does not seem to be working) after a few visits, and refereed me to rheumatologist who sent me for a ton of tests (bone scan, a bunch of blood work, urine sample etc...) and they never find anything related to the pain (all they did find was a minor issue with my thyroid.

Can anyone suggest what to do from here?
This morning I feel like I am going to scream, as it hurts so much to even type this.
Any suggestions or ideas would be helpful, as i am getting to the end of my rope...

Thank you.

I would go back to your primary care doctor (I think you call them GPs) and ask him what kind of specialist to see next, tell him what your symptoms are at present. Be sure and tell him how severe things are at present and that the meds you have received so far don't work. Take a list or the actual meds in their bottles.

I am sorry, I am not familiar with the healthcare system in Canada, and do not know how one gets referrals to specialists.

Keep in touch.

Take care, Annette

As far as where the pain is located, it is worst in my hands, but my hips and between my knees and my butt can get pretty bad too.
The type of pain? It mostly feels like a bruise, but almost not as deep. It's pretty symmetrical as well (not sure if that matters), as I never really have pain on one side without it being on the other.

Thank you. My family doctor just moved back to China, so the only doctor I have at the moment is my rheumatologist (I have tried to find a new family doctor, but for now I am relying on walk in clinics).
One of the doctors I saw gave me a some stretches and exercises to do, so I have been trying those, but I can't do them until the evening because it is too painful to do them in the morning.

The two last doctors I saw told them they are unable to do anything or refer me to anyone until the rheumatologist is done (I only get to see him once every six weeks) assessing me. The next time I see him, we will be discussing the results from my bone scan.

That does make some sense, they do not want to intrude on the rheumatologist and his work with you. How do you guys up north get family doctors, do you have to wait to be assigned one? Can you find one on your own?

I do stretches and also exercise for at least an hour every single day, yuck. I do belly dancing along with DVDs on the TV set at home at night. It does not get rid of or improve the pain itself, but it does make me feel globally better, stronger, and less likely to fall as I age. I have FMS and DDD in my cervical spine. I am currently 61 and have had these things for over 15 years now. I have only been exercising for about three years now, I wish I had started many years ago.

Take care, and please do keep in touch.

Annette
