Are you watching the Games in London? Sometimes stories are shared there of athletes who have overcome significant injury — including one cyclist from Australia who had a broken neck a few years ago — and that got me to wondering… do stories like that inspire you? What does inspire you?

I have so many everyday heroes around me in my own life. My brother broke his back a few years ago and was laid up for a VERY long time, but his family and friends rallied around him and he persevered; he still has pain but he was able to eventually return to work and do the things he enjoys. My father has had rheumatoid arthritis since his 40s as well as bouts of sciatica for many decades but both he and my mother continued to downhill ski and hike into their 70s and still go for daily walks in their 80s (her two strokes and a serious heart condition notwithstanding). My older son almost cut off his hand at the wrist in a construction accident but with a lot of patience and hard work and despite continuing nerve damage, has been able to continue to challenge himself physically (he loves extreme sports and the outdoors) and lives a fuller life and with more joy than most people I know. And the list goes on. How about you?
