Your New Normal

When did you realize that your pain was here to stay, that it really wasn't going away and that this was your new normal?

What helped you through that transition? And is that acceptance ever-evolving?

I don't remember the date, but I was seeing my PM's PA. She was a little aloof and I was really in pain. She started to walk out the door and I think she realized I was hanging on to the edge.
She turned to me and said, "look, it's not that we think you don't hurt. I've seen your files and I know you must be in pain. You need to learn to accept it. You need to learn that the old you has died and will never come back...take what you have and start a new life."
She left and I cried for a bit. She was right, but also her acknowledgment made me feel relevant.
It was a reall epiphany.
