My doctors keep prescribing medicines that contain codeine or warn against taking if allergic to codeine. Any suggestions for medicine that can just be taken after surgery or general illness? I am a heart patient and take several heart related medications.

Are you allergic to codeine?

Many people who may be sensitive to codeine...do just fine on more of the morphine based medication like Morphine itself (MSContin or MSIR), Dilaudid, or other meds like Fentanyl, Opana or Nucynta.

I can seeing needing a pain medication after a surgery...but what "general illness" are we talking about?

What do you need surgery for?
