My pain DR. wants to burn a nerve in my back and I want to way the pros and cons. PLEASE HELP!!!! I keep looking and can find no info reguarding this. I was told it's called a LUMBAR MEDIAL BRANCH BLOCK. First they pump the chosen nerve with lidocaine and see how you tolerate that. I have been slightly dizzy with a low grade fever for a month since the lidocaine, but they said it isn't due to the shot. ??? ANYONE OUT THERE??????

The procedure where they burn the nerves is called Radio Frequency Ablation. Here is a link to a good article that talks about this procedure:
This article is about cancer pain, but it applies to back pain as well.

My wife is having this procedure performed by her pain management specialist this coming Thursday morning. She has a work-related back injury that occurred last March and has has several types of therapy including lidocaine shots.

Other websites that have good information regarding spinal problems and treatments are:

Keep doing your research. Keep moving as much as possible. Keep a positive attitude.

I hope your procedure goes well and you can get relief.

Hello Dave,
I'm glad to see your wife was able to re-schedule this treatment.

Please keep us informed on the outcome of this procedure.

I wish her all the best!

Thank you, Georgia. I definitely will update everyone. They are doing both sides of her lower back in one session as it was too difficult for the pm to get the anesthesiologist for two sessions.

She has a wc hearing on Thursday, January 3. Hopefully that will go well. The company and their insurance carrier is giving her a very difficult time. That is how it goes with workman's comp cases from what I understand.

Thanks gain for your reply.

Hi. I'm looking for the same info. my doct tested me with lidocaine and no more pain. it's starting to become sore again, and I'm wondering about the burning of the nerve. it deadens it. I want to know what the pro's and cons' are as well.

I had my nerves burned back in February and so did my nurse at the same time. The nurse had her's done under anesthesia at an out patient facility while I had mine done with a local in the office. It may be a coincidence but her'son worked great and mine didn't work at all. Who knows, maybe it wasn't the right treatment for me.
I wish you all the best with your treatment.
