Help with Fibromyalgia

I am new here but not with fibro. I have tried everything. I can't take anti-depressants, I have all of the side effects. I've tried ambien and a few others, I didn't sleep. Most meds I take make me more miserable then I already am. I exercise daily, I have two "beautiful cockers" that I walk several times a day. I have been on pain meds, now I am on vicodin and I still hurt. I was up most of the night with pain in my leg. Just one leg! I used heat first then ice. The ice helps best. I do good if I get four hours of sleep a night. I am at the end of my rope. I need some help. I don't know what else to do. I have been to the chiropractor also.

hey Anon 29249, welcome to our board. You say that you are "new here but not with fibro", does this mean that you have been dealing with fibro a while and can't get any relief? You stated that you have tried many anti-depressants and can't stand them due to the side-effects, correct? I recently was prescribed a very low dose of Seroquil for sleep (because my pain levels were to high to allow for practically any rest)...it is a 20mg tablet. Though it is prescribed for those patients with bi-polar and schizophrenia, the dose it 1/8 of what they take for their condition. It's such a low dose that it won't interact with other pain meds/nerve meds, etc. I have been on pain medication for a while for a rare neuralgia. I have seen fibro (my dad had it) and witnessed what it does to the body and how difficult it is to manage. There are other members here that also manage it well, hopefully they will post with insight. If you are walking 2 times a day then that's GREAT!! Be proud of that. Many people can't even muster the energy it takes. What about aqua-therapy? The water was the easiest way for my dad to get relief from the "stress" of his weight and pressure on the joints. It's not easy to make that effort to get there to do it, but if you can, just give that a try. Just soak, and demand absolutely nothing from your body. I've been trying meditation lately to help with the stress that coincides with the chronic pain, but I've been told it may take several months to reap the benefits of it. I believe that it takes practice, so I'm not knocking it yet.

Well, please post your progress or other concerns. I hope to be able to help, but more than likely you would receive advice from other 'sufferers' and feel more at ease.

Take good care of yourself, great to see you here and you're welcome any time, B

Sleep is a complicated thing. If you are not sleeping because your pain comes back as your vicodin wears off, perhaps you need a long acting opiate, at least for the night time. I did that and it made a huge difference.

I have never slept like I did in the pre-FMS days. I take ambien and that gives me 5-6 hours of decent sleep on a good night.

I also get in my hot tub every night before bed, I never skip this step even if I am exhausted and just want to go to bed.

Antidepressants were not good for me for many reasons. But I can and do take gabapentin once a day a few hours before bedtime.

I feel it is the combination of many small things, drug and non-drug helping me, they total up to significant help.

Take care, Annette
