MMR and chicken pox

Well, I thought I was over the MMR vaccine worries, but I am starting to worry again. Can some moms and/ dads just give me an "it's okay" about the MMR and autism/ADHD.

My 13 month got his vaccine MMR and varicella 2 weeks ago. About 4 days ago he started being real emotional and grumpy. he does not even walk the same. I am starting to worry. He threw up last thursday. No fever though. Is this just a mild reaction. I of course got on the internet and read the links about the MMR and autism, even though it is been proven worng, it just scares me. He is normally a very happy baby and was hitting all the milestones on time.


First time mom and worried. Any advise or past experiences?

Is he teething, is he not getting enough sleep, there could be a lot of reasons he could be grumpy, my lil man started getting grumpy cuz he doesnt wanna go to bed anymore. I think him not getting the shot could be way more harmful than getting the shot. I guess if you want some comfort you could always see his doctor.

I totally understand where you are coming from. I did a lot of research before getting DS's vaccines and decided to go ahead with the normal vaccine schedule. Then when it came time for the MMR I freaked out because that night he was lethargic and threw up! He had never had a reaction to any other shots. We soon found out he is allergic to eggs and the MMR vaccine contained some egg in it. So maybe something in the shot just didn't agree with him :)

I did a lot of research before getting DS's vaccines and decided to go ahead with the normal vaccine schedule. Then when it came time for the MMR I freaked out because that night he was lethargic and threw up! He had never had a reaction to any other shots. We soon found out he is allergic to eggs and the MMR vaccine contained some egg in it. So maybe something in the shot just didn't agree with him :)

You know, you have a point...maybe he allergic to eggs. he threw up too, but he threw up exactly one week after the shots. Also, I tried scrambled eggs with him after he turned one and broke out in a rash on his stomach after he ate them and also a rash one week after the shots. interesting. thanks for the advise, I will bring up this to his pedi.

island_baby: I will be moving to the 2-year-old boards soon as DS will turn two June 9! :( Keep me posted on how your little guy is doing. We took him to an allergy specialist and had him tested for about 10 allergies. I'm not sure how your doctor would do it, but the tests were not a needle prick like people hear about from the past. These felt like a comb being scratched across his back (they let me feel it before they did it to him)... so painless! Good luck!

I just took my son last Friday (the 13th) for his 15 month check up where he recieved his MMR and Chicken Pox vaccines. His pediatrician (an amazing woman) told me that the reactions (if any) with these vaccines are delayed about 10-14 days and could include fever, fussiness, a small rash across his belly or back, but nothing overwhelmingly alarming. So, she said, do not panic and just remember the vaccine.

I think sometimes, especially when we go online for information it causes us to look too hard for things that aren't really there. We now know the Autism/MMR link to be false, so try not to worry :D
