Are Poinsettias Really Poisonous? (Expert Response)

Were you raised to believe that poinsettias are poisonous? My mother worried EVERY winter over the pets and children putting this holiday plant in their mouths.

Read HERE what Michael Wahl, MD, medical director of the Illinois Poison Center, in Chicago, reveals about the relative risks of eating poinsettia. I know my mother will probably not believe me, but I can't wait to fill her in! What about you?

I'm betting it's cause of the red leaves/flower. Old wives tails say that any plant that is brightly colored, especialy red, is posionous. It was nearly the 18th centery when they figured out tomatos were not posionus when ripe.
