Unexplained Febrile Seizures - Plz Help!

My niece is 1.5 and since July she has febrile seizures once a month. Her first seizure she spiked a 103 temp due to her immuzation shot (they now ruled she had an allergic reaction) and after seeing a couple specialists, including a neorologist, they confirmed it was febrile and she will grow out of them and they are non harmful. However, since then ANYTHING that causes her body temp. to rise has now caused her to show symptoms of going to have one or have one, even when she plays to hard. My sister is on pins and needles and is constantly worried she will go into another one. They carry motrin with them at all times and soon as they see her cheeks get flushed they try to nip the temp in the butt before it climbs to the 103 (it rises there fast). Nobody knows why she keeps on getting these unexplained high fevers. She wants to go to another neorogolist but her insurance right now is denying it stating they do not see it's medically necessary. Please any tips/suggestions/thoughts/ideas is very helpful. this poor little baby is not getting any better!!

I'm sorry, but with seizures this frequently your niece is not really dealing with the simple febrile seizures that children outgrow. This really needs more thorough evaluation and treatment. Perhaps her family can work with their pediatrician to contact insurance to get them to reconsider a second opinion; at the very least, they ought to return to neurologist #1 with this new information that the seizures have continued so frequently. That changes the approach.

    Best of luck-
