Sunscreen and hair loss

MJuneC posted:
Last year I put sunscreen on my 2 yr olds scalp (she's 3 now) b/c she wouldn't keep a hat on. She had shortish, red, wavy/curly hair that wasn't too thin, but her scalp could still be burnt. Part way through the summer I noticed all her hair was falling out. I thought it had to be the sunscreen so stopped doing that and got her to keep a hat on. When her hair did start coming back in it was straight and blonde. By Christmas it looked like she was going to get a nice head of hair. Now it is just staying the same. Nothing has grown since Christmas. The front is very short, maybe 3/4 of an inch and the longest is maybe 4 inches, but all is very thin. I wasn't worried about it until I did some research and couldn't find anything on hair loss due to sunscreen. Any help would be appreciated.

I wouldn't think it would be the sunscreen. Lots of people put sunscreen on their scalp. It might be something hormonal, or even something just normal. I'd see your pedi about it, and if he/she won't or can't help, I think an endocrinologist or dermatologist might be able to get to the bottom of why her hair won't grow.
