Baby shower likes and dislikes

Sarah's cookie post got me thinking about baby showers. I'm planning one for my sister, who is pregnant after 4 1/2 years of trying, and I would love to do some fun stuff.

It's a family shower with women only (family politics necessitate this unfortunately) and family gatherings are usually pretty awkward. Add in some major tension with my other sister (pregnant sister and I are very close) and mom being very unhappy with her own situation, and this could be a recipe for a crap fest.

What did you guys love doing at your baby shower or any others that you've attended? I'm doing sister's at a park, with sister's house being the backup in the 1% chance of rain in AZ at that time.

She's good with games, just nothing related to how big she is.

So the baby shower went really well. Everyone was on their best behavior, so no family drama. The games were a big hit, my sister really liked getting the books inscribed from everyone. The Price is Right game was fun, but the big hit was the play-doh baby game! Everyone loved it, and my sister and her friend took the remaining play-doh to their crafting group and they had fun with it that afternoon. Here are the babies we made, I came in second, mines the purple one. I know you can't really see them, but it was really fun.

I know this is an older topic, but I went to a baby shower this past weekend and they played a fun game that I thought I would share since sometimes people go back and look at old posts for reference.

The hostess passed out an index card to each guest and instructed them to write a question that had something to do with babies. When everyone wrote down their question she had everyone turn them over and pass their card to the person on the left. Then on the new card you were supposed to write down the answer to your question on the back.

She gathered them up and had the expectant mommy read the questions and answers. Some of them made no sense, but some were funny. Then she got to pick her favorites and the question writer got a prize.

The two that were selected as winners were:
Q: What is the babies first bowel movement called?
A: Fresh air

Q: How do you make a baby?
A: Every 2-3 hours

One more time I wanted to share some more ideas in case anyone ever needs to reference this link. My friend Jess hosted a baby shower for me last Saturday and she had some fun games. There are photos on my blog: sarann-rap.blogspot.com

The first one she found celebrity baby photos and then made a collage of the baby face with the current body to serve as a clue. Guests had to identify the celebrity.

Then she asked each guest to bring their own baby photo and she made a collage and had everyone guess who was who. I snuck in a baby picture of DH since most of the guests were his coworkers.

The last game was everyone had to pair up and one person had to feed the other person a bowl of baby food in a race against the other teams. We used fruit flavors, not the icky ones.

They were all pretty fun.

thanks for updating with some more fun ideas...
A few of my co-workers are setting up a shower for me at the end of July and they keep asking for my opinion on everything so when it comes to games, I will def refer to this discussion! Now that I am seeing the dr every two weeks I feel like its coming fast! Kinda nervous about getting everything ready! lol...

But i love these ideas! At DS1's baby shower we did a jeopardy game with the theme of winnie the pooh, and played a game where each person had to put a penny between their knees and walk across the room and drop it in the jar... That was pretty funny to watch and try to do!
