Thumb Sucking

Do any of your kids still suck their thumbs? Michael is 4 and 4 months and he still sucks his thumb. Not 24/7 like he did when he was younger. I catch him doing it when he is REALLY tired, REALLY sick, or REALLY overwhelmed/nervous. I don't have to check on him at night to see if he fell asleep because you can hear the sucking sound louder once he is passed out.

I guess you could say I'm at the extreme end of thumb sucking. I sucked my thumb until I was 16. I only did it at night and I never even realized I was doing it. I didn't use it to fall asleep just at some point in the night I would start. I remember waking up and my finger being pruney. It stopped b/c I got a peice of wood stuck under my thumb nail and had to have my nail partially removed and a huge bandage wrapped around it that had to be replaced daily. So that cured me of it. I never had any problems with my teeth. I had sleep overs with friends and no one ever said anything to me about it. My parents never tried forcing me to stop or making a huge deal over it. There might have been a comment here and there about thinking it was time to stop but no demands were ever made to stop me.
