Weight Watchers or Calorie Counting?

I am starting my diet today. So far I have done real well....it's not even 11:30 yet haha! BUT I was going to be cheap and do calorie counting. I could just download a free app to help. OR do you think I should suck it up and do weight watchers? What are your opinions?

Keep going! I changed up my workouts and hoping that helps.
Food is a tough one for me. To be honest for me weight watchers did not really work. I calorie counted and portion controlled and didn't really lose weight. I have found my issue is carbs. I need to cut those out eat more lean meats with lots of veggies/fruit and that works for me. Protein and fiber type thing.
But everyone responds differently to things so I know tons of people who have had great success with weight watchers.

OK - 3 hours later, are you still doing well?!? Congrats on starting a diet!

The WebMD Food & Fitness planner is helpful. Not an app yet but you can access from a browser on your phone. Also, here's a link to the WebMD Food-O-Meter Calorie Calculator (nutrition facts including calories, fat, carbohydrates, protein, sugar, fiber in over 37,000 foods and beverages)

Good luck - I know you can do it!

P.S. How much weight do you want to lose? There are some fun community diet clubs here that have lots of supportive members

Still doing well at 3:40!! I had a salad with grilled chicken for lunch and water to drink! I have had a weight problem my entire life. I have a tball picture of me from when I was 6 and I weighed 60lbs!! I have dieted in the past and as soon as I stop, it all comes back plus. I started dieting in January, I was doing well, but then depression got the best of me. Unfortunately I use food to comfort myself. But here I am....in the last year of my 20's and I want to be healthy and look good for my 30's! My first goal is to lose 35 lbs....that will take me to highest weight I have ever been before kids. Then I will take it from there. Thanks for the support and I am going to check out the diet communities and stuff....

I just track calories. I have used SparkPeople in the past, but I'm currently (though not consistently) using MyFitnessPal. I downloaded the free app on my phone, too. I'm too cheap to spend the money on Weight Watchers.

Like you, I turn to food when I'm depressed or stressed. I need to get back into the routine of logging my food. It makes a huge difference.

If you wanted to do a daily log of your food here, I'd post mine. I need something to get me motivated to log food again.

I have been doing WW since Sept 2011(& my DH) & have lost 40lbs. I feel great even though I am not at my goal weight yet - still would like to lose another 25-35 lbs. I weigh less than I have for years.

The one thing I have to say about WW is it has helped me to make better food choices, give me an idea of what the portion sizes should be & stick to a healthier way of eating not just a diet. You can do it ll online(what I do). They give you a number of points based on your weight & they give you extra weekly points to treat yourself once a week or daily if you choose. They also set you up for success by breaking down your large goal into smaller loss goals. like only a 5-10% loss as your first goal so you have the feeling of success & you don't lose motivation.

That's why people gain it all back because it's a diet not a way of life. I'm still not perfect & I do cheat once in awhile - heck it's summer who can live w/out ice cream with kids.

All of this was just as I was learning to make better choices of food & no exercise. In the past month & a half I have really been making an effort to use the treadmill & walk or do some form of exercise everyday. I am getting up at 5:45am to get it 30 min in & I feel good all day. It sucks it has to be so early(I love my sleep) but then if I do something else later it is a bonus & it doesn't have to be much.

Even if you don't join WW I would invest in a good weight scale & a food scale to measure your portions. We had an old scale, started with that then got a digital scale & it weighed us as more than what we started so it was like losing the same weight again.

Good Luck & post here if you want. I will encourage you what I can.

Great Job!!! You have the right attitude. You have to change how you eat. It isn't some short term goal with quick fixes. Nothing wrong with a little cheating now and then, as long as it is now and then.

Cinda - 5:45, you are my hero!!! One day last week I worked late and missed my run so I got up at 6:30 to run and then ran again at 5:30 pm. The am run did get me going for the day. But boy it was tough!

You go girl!

You really do have the right attitude. Can you teach my DH?
