Tooth Fairy (apo elementary board)

My 6 year old is going to be losing his first tooth, possibly 2 this summer. (they aren't very lose yet, but he's constantly wiggling them, so it will be sometime late summer probably) What is the going rate for the tooth fairy these days? When I was a kid, it was 50 cents for a small tooth and a dollar for a big tooth. But I've heard of some kids getting 5 or more!!! A student of mine once told me she gets $10 for the little ones and $20 for the big ones!!! My son is actually hoping he'll get a toy instead of money, but I just wanted to get a general idea of what others are doing.

Thanks

My friend a dental hygentist looked it up and it is like $2.87.
I give $3.25 per tooth. No more than that and they are happy with that. Otherwise I couldn't afford it !
My biggest fear is not having cash in the house so I got some stashed in my drawer. As I can't just go out begging the neighbors. Although I could and they would help I would feel silly !

Wow, I don't know what the "going" rate is, but I don't plan on giving more than a dollar! A nice shiny dollar coin is my plan.

We give either a half dollar or a gold dollar. Just whatever I happen to grab. Our kids haven't spent their tooth fairy money yet. My grandma saves half dollars and dollar coins so my kids want to save theirs too.

As I posted on the elementary board, DH unilaterally decided that the going rate was $5 per tooth. My plan was $1 using golden dollar coins. So much for my plan.

Last year Levi believed that the tooth fairy either left money or a chicken and wanted a chicken. I'm not sure where the chicken came from. I'm glad that this year, as he began to loose teeth, it was just money.

Thank you all. I'm thinking I won't do over $1 for the little ones and maybe $2 for the big ones. I have a little while to figure it out, and like I said, he's hoping the tooth fairy will bring him a toy instead, so we'll see what happens. The teeth aren't very loose yet, so it will be at least another month before they're ready to come out.

I leave whatever change I can find in DH's armoire! I rarely have cash of any kind. Unfortunately I'll probably run out and be in the boat as Sandra described and then be digging in the couch.

We did around $5 for the first tooth. And then did between $2 and $3 on the 2nd. Of course Ava noticed and asked why the tooth fairy left so much less the 2nd time.

I will probably pay $1 shiny gold coin per tooth except maybe for the first one.

we did 2 of the golden dollar coins per tooth because we had watched a yo gabba gabba and that's what Muno got. The third tooth was yanked out by Momma so he got 4 golden dollars but he figured it was because mom took the tooth out.

When the 1st one got loose I went to the bank and got a roll of golden dollars.
